Roberto De Zerbi told to promote Tottenham sensation to the first XI as footage emerges

Tottenham fans have urged Roberto De Zerbi to promote Luca Williams-Barnett to the first team after his stunning goal for England under-19s.

De Zerbi is under real pressure at Spurs right now following their slow start to the new campaign.

They are sat rock bottom of the Premier League in the midst of the first international break of the campaign, with just two points from their five games so far.

Tottenham have scored just two league goals across those five outings, with many fans and pundits questioning De Zerbi's attacking set-up.

They are keen to see academy starlet Williams-Barnett play more regularly for the first team in an effort to solve their final third issues.

His latest exploits on international duty have been enough proof for swathes of their fans to call on De Zerbi to give the 17-year-old more chances in the coming months.

Luca Williams-Barnett's England goal causes panic and excitement among Spurs fans

Williams-Barnett joined Spurs' academy in 2018 and made his way through their youth ranks to be handed his senior debut in the Carabao Cup against Doncaster Rovers last September at 16-years-old.

The attacking midfielder was included in Spurs' pre-season tour squad under De Zerbi in the summer, and made his first senior appearance of the campaign against Charlton in the cup last month.

He scored a stunning solo goal for England under-19s in their 2-1 win over Norway on Tuesday, slaloming past defenders as he cut onto his right foot and smashed the ball into the top left corner.

The clip of his goal went semi-viral on X, with Spurs fans subsequently calling on De Zerbi to hand him more first team opportunities amid their struggles, or face losing him to another top club.

One posted to say: "Spurs are committing a worse crime against football than Man City for not playing Luca in the first team. He makes Yamal look average."

While another added: "Clubs are going to be licking their lips if De Zerbi doesn't integrate him."

And one fan said: "This guy. Wow. Hopefully De Zerbi sees this as he needs minutes. We cannot mess this up, other clubs will come calling if we do."

What has De Zerbi said about Williams-Barnett in public?

De Zerbi clearly rates the 17-year-old highly, having already included him in his pre-season plans and given him game time last month.

The Spurs boss has been careful with his praise of Williams-Barnett, but is surely set to hand him more chances based on what he has already told reporters.

Speaking about the teenager in July, he said: "We have to manage him like a precious diamond. We have to help him to improve in the last decision. Physically, work harder to become stronger because this time of football, he needs to be strong.”
