Juventus are in advanced talks to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pape Matar Sarr in a loan-to-buy deal, sources have told Football Insider.

The Serie A giants are close to an agreement for the 23-year-old, with an option to buy set at around £26million.

Tottenham have given the green light for the Senegal international to leave the club this summer amid a significant rebuild in midfield this summer that has seen both Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes arrive.

Sarr is yet to appear in Roberto De Zerbi's squad this season and was limited to brief substitute appearances after his appointment earlier this year, despite having played a more significant role for Thomas Frank.

The potential sale could help fund what has been an extraordinary summer for Tottenham, and there is still expected to be further business before the deadline.

A deal has reportedly been agreed between the Lilywhites and Everton over separate deals for Iliman Ndiaye and Richarlison, which are expected to go through in the coming hours.

Why are Tottenham selling Pape Matar Sarr?

In the 2024-25 season, Sarr made 55 appearances across all competitions and was a key player for Ange Postecoglou.

The midfielder even started the Europa League final against Manchester United, and scored six goals across the course of the campaign.

But just over 12 months later, the Senegal international is being sold for just over £10m more than Tottenham paid to sign him from Metz in 2022.

Sarr has undoubtedly stagnated following Postecoglou's departure, and a season disrupted by the Africa Cup of Nations and injuries has proved fatal for his career in North London.

Juventus provides a superb opportunity, however, and De Zerbi has confirmed that the 23-year-old has asked to take it.

Sarr has been injured at the start of this season, but with several players ahead of him in the pecking order, it is unlikely he would have featured heavily.

At Juventus, the 23-year-old will arrive to a midfield in desperate need of reinforcement amid injuries to Khephren Thuram and Weston McKennie.

Speaking last week De Zerbi said: "Richarlison, I don't know. He said too many times he wants to leave. [Kevin] Danso came to me two days ago and he said wants to leave and Pape Sarr the same, but he suffered a small injury, but he is almost ready to train.

"I have very good relationships but if they want to leave, they have to bring the solution, the economic solution, to the club, and they can go."
