Stefan Borson shares verdict on Richarlison 'ripping up his contract' at Tottenham after FIFA approach

Richarlison is likely to face an uphill battle in his attempt to tear up his contract at Tottenham Hotspur for the 2026-27 season.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the Brazilian's situation will soon come to a conclusion.

The 29-year-old has approached FIFA over terminating his contract, trying to force a move away, with his current deal expiring next summer.

Rumours of an Everton return had emerged during the summer transfer window, but a move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium never materialised for the striker.

A few hours of the Brazilian transfer window remain, but it doesn't look like the exiled Tottenham striker will secure an exit for the current campaign.

Richarlison believes he has a case, especially after being left out of Roberto De Zerbi's 25-man squad, but time is quickly running out for the centre-forward.

Richarlison unlikely to 'have his contract ripped up'

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson admitted that he fails to see how Richarlison can be successful in his bid to become a free agent.

"He needs just cause, and I don't think he's got just cause, from what I can gather. But you can't always see everything," he said.

"You can't always see the full picture and the full facts. I suspect it's a negotiating stance and you'll get to a position soon.

"I think there was an offer from Brazil. I suspect they'll resolve it without litigation. It's very unlikely he's going to succeed in getting his contract ripped up.

"I'm not sure that there's any grounds for just cause, from what we know. Clearly we don't know everything, but clearly, the relationship between the club is troubled.

"He's always been quite... He's come across as quite an unusual character and I think the sooner parting happens the better.

"There has to be a solution where Spurs get what they think his market value is, even allowing for all of the issues about his personality."

Tottenham already have plan for exiled striker

With Richarlison not included in De Zerbi's Premier League squad, a rather frustrating and lonely first half of the season awaits the player.

He is likely to be training individually, not being involved in the first-team's planning, and will continue to waste away in the reserves until he leaves.

Football Insider understands that, should he fail to secure a move in the next few hours, the January transfer window will be his next best bet.

Of course, offloading him for a suitable price will be the hardest part, but numerous Brazilian clubs are understood to be interested in his signature.
