Tottenham make Roberto De Zerbi sack 'decision' as fans 'angry'

Published on

Tottenham Hotspur have no plans to sack Roberto De Zerbi in the near future despite anger from the supporters.

The 47-year-old has overseen a slow start to the new season, with no wins and no goals scored in their opening three Premier League games, leading to questions being asked.

He has also been outspoken about his frustrations with his players, having questioned their attitudes and commitment, sparking new concerns about his man-management.

However, former Tottenham scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Spurs will give De Zerbi "as much time as possible" to turn their terrible start to the season around.

After spending over £300million to back the manager during the summer transfer window, there are concerns about the optics of making another change already.

That big spend has also increased the pressure on De Zerbi, however, with growing expectations on him to deliver better result than they have suffered in the last two seasons.

What do Tottenham have planned for Roberto De Zerbi?

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider on 3 September that Tottenham are reluctant to sack De Zerbi after spending heavily in the summer transfer window.

Instead, the board are planning to be patient and allow the boss to get his ideas across to a new-look squad who still have to adapt to playing together in North London.

Growing pressure from the fans is doing little to help the situation, however, with frustrations bubbling and concerns growing after a miserable start to the season.

"There's not a good feeling around Tottenham at the moment," Brown told Football Insider.

"The fans are anrgy, they're frustrated, and they're making that clear because it's been a nightmare start to the season after the last couple of years.

"Tottenham have finished 17th twice in a row, and they expect far more from that, with De Zerbi the man tasked with turning things around.

"So after three games with no wins and no goals, of course there are going to be questions asked, and it becomes more and more difficult with each game that passes.

"From a Tottenham point of view, I'm told they are going to give him as much time as possible to get things right and turn things around.

"They don't want to have another change in manager so soon, it doesn't look good on anybody, and especially after spending the amount of money they did in the window.

"De Zerbi still has to prove he can get results out of this side, and there is clearly a lot of work to be done, but the Tottenham board believe he will be able to do that even if the fans are unsure."

How does De Zerbi feel about his position at Tottenham?

After what has been a nightmare start to the season for Tottenham, the fans are not the only ones showing their frustrations, with the manager also unhappy.

He has been left disappointed by his players' performances, and has hit out at them publicly already this season, in a clear display that he will demand more from them.

Brown told Football Insider on 6 September that De Zerbi is already unhappy in his position at Tottenham after what has been a miserable run of form lately.

De Zerbi has questioned his players' mentality, as well as that of the club, in a rant which sounded eerily similar to what we have heard from former Spurs managers.

However, with the club attempting to turn around their fortunes following back-to-back 17th-place finishes, fans have little patience for continued excuses from the manager.
