'Tottenham should have signed third player from Man City, he's far better than current starter'
Tottenham Hotspur should have made efforts to sign James Trafford from Manchester City this summer.
That is the opinion of former senior Tottenham scout, Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.
The 23-year-old ultimately joined Leeds United in a £40million deal last month, and has got off to a superb start at Elland Road.
Trafford kept clean sheets in both of his opening games before making several saves to earn the Whites a point against Brentford on Sunday.
Tottenham have had an incredibly busy summer, with Tosin Adarabioyo and Mykhailo Mudryk set to be signings number nine and ten after a double-deal was agreed with Chelsea.
They have already done extensive business with Man City, with Savio signing permanently and Omar Marmoush on a loan-to-buy deal.
Yet Antonin Kinsky remains the number one at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, despite several mistakes.
Tottenham have missed out on 'the next England goalkeeper'
It remains to be seen whether Tottenham make a move for a goalkeeper on transfer deadline day, but they are yet to show any intention.
It has been a difficult start to the season for the Lilywhites and Kinsky, who made a mistake against Brentford and not a single save in the loss to Newcastle.
"I'm not sure really what the recruitment's about at that football club at the moment. What they should have done in the summer was go for the boy who went to Leeds, Trafford," King told Football Insider.
"I mean, [Emi] Martinez went for £7.5m to Chelsea. They're crying out for a solid goalkeeper. One missed, Trafford, who could be the next England goalkeeper.
"You've got the boy [Dean] Henderson at Crystal Palace, who if they'd have gone for him big time, would have probably signed him. They had the chance to sign Martinez from Aston Villa. No move for any one of the three.
"They let [Guglielmo] Vicario go on loan. They've got a goalkeeper who, for me, is all right, but he isn't going to win you anything."
Tottenham's perilous goalkeeping situation
Considering just how much money Tottenham have been willing to spend this money to strengthen their squad, their inaction at goalkeeper is bizarre.
Kinsky enjoyed a strong end to the campaign, but is a very young goalkeeper and has made huge errors in the past.
Should he hit a run of bad form, Tottenham's only replacement is Martin Dubravka, who was relegated last season with Burnley.
With just hours left in the window, the Lilywhites must make a decision that will affect the remainder of the season.
