Tottenham's Marbella trip raises new De Zerbi concerns - ex-Spurs employee

Tottenham's trip to Marbella ahead of facing Coventry City has raised new concerns.

That is according to experienced former Tottenham, Everton and Aston Villa scout, Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

The Lilywhites have been handed an extended break between matches, with the fixtures against the newly promoted side coming nine days after facing Man United, where Dominic Solanke rescued a draw.

Roberto De Zerbi's side are still seeking their first win of the Premier League campaign.

And they are looking to change their fortunes and emerge out of the top flight's bottom three.

The Italian clearly feels a trip away with the squad will be for the best, but that has come under scrutiny.

Tottenham trip has 'question mark' hanging over it

Tottenham are slowly beginning to look like a cohesive unit.

Their performance against Manchester United was one of their best this season so far, and if there was no red card for Rodrigo Bentancur, then who knows what result could have emerged.

With a win yet to arrive, the squad has jetted off to Spain for a warm-weather training camp, with that decision facing some scrutiny.

"I see they're going away this week. Gone on Monday to Marbella, didn't they? I hope it's going to be for team building," King told Football Insider.

"The one thing Tottenham do need is team building. The fact that he's had all summer to do it without the right results puts a question mark over going away.

"Personally, I'd have thought they could have their team built at their training ground, but footballers are footballers."

Why Tottenham's team spirit is important

Tottenham are one of the teams that have perhaps gone through the most changes in the summer.

The North London side has seen quite an overhaul of their squad, and there will be a lack of on-field relationships throughout the squad.

This trip away will allow for the Italian to hopefully begin building those up, and overall making Spurs a more organised side, with teammates understanding each other better during games.

It will be important for the Tottenham manager to start helping to forge those relationships, and a trip to sunny Spain will lift the mood and provide an excellent environment for doing so.

However, as King states, the optics don't look too great considering that Spurs are sitting in 19th in the Premier League table, and De Zerbi had a full pre-season to sort it.
