Tottenham's new Kim Min-jae transfer plan revealed
Tottenham could move to sign Kim Min-jae next summer as Bayern will be open to offers for his services, sources have told Football Insider.
Spurs have kept Kim, 29, on their transfer shortlist for several years after he nearly joined the club in 2020.
He was playing in China at that point, but has gone on to feature for several top European clubs, winning league trophies in Italy and Germany.
Recent reports have claimed that Spurs are plotting a fresh move for his services in the January transfer window.
Bayern will not let him leave mid-season, but as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Tottenham could land him next summer as the German giants will be more open to an exit.
Vincent Kompany will push to keep Kim at the club in the new year as Bayern chase silverware on several fronts this season.
Tottenham told when they could sign Kim Min-jae
Spurs' shaky defensive displays have fuelled rumours over the club potentially entering the market for another centre-back in January.
Kim has only started two of Bayern's first four Bundesliga games this season, but remains a key part of Kompany's squad.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "Vincent Kompany wants to keep hold of Kim Min-jae. Next summer, that might be a different story. It gives them time to bring in a replacement if they were to let Kim move on at the end of the season.
"He's a top player, a South Korean international, who maybe has been a bit in and out of the Bayern Munich team, and that's why we're getting the suggestions that they could be willing to let him leave, but I don't think that's the plan right now."
What has Kim said about his Bayern future?
Kim's current Bayern contract runs until 2028, so it would be no surprise to see him move on in the next 12 months if he fails to agree to fresh terms with the club.
The South Korean star was linked away from the club over the summer, but admitted in August that he was set to stay for the campaign despite falling down Kompany's pecking order.
He told reporters: "As a player, just to be with a team like Bayern Munich is a blessing. Last season, I thought I played a lot of matches. I am competing as the third-choice defender, and I know I have no choice but to work hard. I think the coach will give me a lot of opportunities, and I think I will stay put."
