Leon Goretzka has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer as they look to rapidly overhaul their squad.

The Bayern Munich midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season, and has been linked to a whole host of clubs across Europe.

The 31-year-old has been a mainstay in the German giants’ team for nearly a decade, winning 16 trophies at the club, including a Champions League.

Now, Calcio Mercato on 22 April has claimed that Tottenham are in the running for Goretzka.

If Spurs can pull the transfer off, the German international may be able to finally add some attacking threat to the club’s midfield.

Leon Goretzka has an incredible attacking threat from midfield

Goretzka is no doubt a top midfielder. His history at Bayern alone showcases that he is one of the best players in the world in his position.

However, what will be of particular interest to Spurs is his ability to influence the attacking side of the game.

Goretzka has some impressive attacking stats this season

So far this season, no midfielder has more than five goals in all competitions, and not a single player has more than five assists.

While Goretzka does not beat this, he is a consistent threat in the Bundesliga.

According to Fotmob on 24 April, he is averaging 0.16 goals and 0.11 assists per 90 minutes.

Across a 38-game Premier League season, this would result in six goals and four assists if he were to keep up this metric.

As a result, Goretzka would be one of Spurs’ best attacking players, despite his traditional defensive role.

Therefore, Tottenham may finally be able to provide consistent goals from midfield, rather than relying on Richarlison and their centre-backs.

What are Tottenham’s other transfer plans?

Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Spurs are hopeful of keeping Archie Gray this summer.

Gray is on the radar of several top Premier League sides despite Tottenham currently facing relegation.

As a result, if they survive, Spurs are confident of keeping hold of the 20-year-old, who has been one of the club’s only bright sparks this season.

However, given Tottenham’s current decline, it remains to be seen if the club can pull itself out of the relegation zone in the remaining matches.
