Richarlison left in tears as Tottenham fall-out takes new twist

Richarlison is causing an "unnecessary headache" for Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi behind the scenes, sources have told Football Insider.

The striker saw several potential moves away from North London fall through this summer, and there is now an "acrimony" surrounding his situation at the club.

Richarlison has publicly expressed his displeasure at De Zerbi's decision to leave him out of Tottenham's squad for Tuesday's Carabao Cup tie against Liverpool.

The Brazil striker shared a screenshot of a social media post about his omission and accompanied it with the message "Why?" and a tearful sad-faced emoji.

After the recent links with Vasco da Gama ultimately fell through, Richarlison is now set to be out in the cold at Spurs until the January transfer window.

De Zerbi hasn't named the Brazilian as part of his squad for the Premier League, and is refusing to reintegrate him into the group.

Tensions are high between the player and the Lilywhites hierarchy, with both sides blaming each other for the failed Vasco move.

Richarlison played a key role for Spurs last season by netting 12 goals in all competitions, but he is unlikely to play for them again, with his contract expiring next summer.

Richarlison had been lined up as a makeweight as part of Spurs' attempts to sign Iliman Ndiaye, but when that deal fell through, his options became extremely limited.

With the Brazilian window running later than the Premier League's, the chance arose for the 29-year-old to return to his homeland with a loan spell at Vasco.

However, nothing could be agreed on that front, with Tottenham blaming Richarlison for his lofty wage demands, and the player pointing the finger at the club.

At this stage, his only choice is to remain in the background at Tottenham until the January window opens, when his exit is now almost an inevitability.

Relations between the two parties have completely broken down, and De Zerbi won't even include him in the squad for the Carabao Cup.

Could Richarlison rip up his contract?

Former Manchester City financial advisor Stefan Borson told Football Insider last week that Richarlison is unlikely to be allowed to rip his Tottenham contract up.

The player recently approached FIFA over a possible termination of his deal, but Borson does not believe that he has "just cause" to do so.

The football finance expert pointed towards the "troubled" relationship between the player and Spurs, but does not believe that is enough justification for his contract to be terminated.

With that in mind, Borson made it clear that he expects Tottenham to try and get some sort of fee for him in January.
