Sources: Pape Sarr wants Tottenham move as Aston Villa swoop

Pape Sarr is looking to leave Tottenham Hotspur before the transfer window shuts early next month, sources have told Football Insider.

The midfielder has fallen down the pecking order after the arrivals of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, and is hoping to be able to get more regular playing time elsewhere this term.

Tottenham are understood to be willing to let the 23-year-old move on if the right offer comes in, with Roberto De Zerbi happy with the depth in his midfield already.

Aston Villa are one of a number of clubs who are keen on the Senegal international, and could make a move for him in the final month of the window.

The Villans are short of midfield options after the sale of Youri Tielemans and the long-term injury to Amadou Onana.

Sarr made 26 appearances in the Premier League last season, notching two goals and four assists, but he is expecting to receive far fewer opportunities in 2026-27.

Tottenham have spent extravagantly in the transfer market so far this summer, with big-money deals for Tonali, Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke all going through.

Those three deals alone have taken the Lilywhites' spending beyond the £230million mark already, while Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson have also joined on free transfers.

The Spurs hierarchy are desperate to back De Zerbi and give him the tools to make a push for European football, but that looks set to have a detrimental effect on some members of the squad.

Sarr has been a long-term project for Tottenham since his arrival back in 2022, but it now appears that he could be reaching the end of the road in North London.

With two top Premier League midfielders coming into the building, Sarr looks set to consider his future in the coming weeks, with opportunities expected to be limited at his current club.

Villa are big admirers of the former Metz man, and are still planning to add another midfielder to their group, despite the recent move to sign Joao Gomes.

Tottenham told £70m Cody Gakpo offer will be accepted

Former Tottenham scout Bryan King told Football Insider on Monday that his former club are likely to need at least £70m to tempt Liverpool into selling Cody Gakpo this summer.

The Lilywhites are huge admirers of the winger, but Liverpool are not willing to sell at the moment, but King believes that could change if a truly lucrative offer were to be put on the table.

However, the ex-recruitment man believes that if Tottenham are serious about landing Gakpo, then they will likely have to sell a member of their current forward line first.

De Zerbi and Co. have balanced some of their summer spending with the £46m sale of Luka Vuskovic, and further exits look set to follow.
