Tottenham Hotspur are attempting to agree terms with Newcastle United star Sandro Tonalisources have told Football Insider.

Spurs have submitted an offer for the 26-year-old midfielder amid a belief that the Magpies will sell the Italy international.

There are fears at the North London club that Manchester City will attempt to hijack their deal for Tonali if they cannot agree an early-summer deal.

The Manchester club want the Newcastle midfielder as well as Elliot Anderson in this transfer window.

Tonali was one of the standout players in the Premier League in the 2025-26 campaign despite the Magpies’ poor season.

Overall, he made 35 appearances in the Premier League last season and picked up two assists.

Can Sandro Tonali solve Tottenham Hotspur’s midfield woes?

Going into the summer, Roberto De Zerbi would have been heavily aware that multiple areas of his squad needed improving.

The midfield is one such area, with players such as Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr heavily underperforming throughout the campaign.

Luckily, many stats indicate that Tonali would be an excellent signing for Spurs if they are able to get it over the line.

According to Fotmob on 27 June, the midfielder was averaging 1.31 shots, 2.51 accurate long balls, 0.21 big chances created, 0.71 successful crosses, 0.67 successful dribbles and 1.49 fouls won, per 90 minutes in the Premier League last season.

Therefore, if these stats can be replicated at Spurs, he could help transform their midfield and help pull the club further away from the relegation zone and back into the top half.

Who else are Tottenham looking to sign this summer?

Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Tottenham are expected to submit a bid for Mateus Fernandes this summer transfer window.

The West Ham United star has been subject to widespread interest in recent weeks after their relegation to the Championship.

The Hammers have reportedly placed a £85million price tag on the 21-year-old, but Spurs are looking to strike a deal below demand.

Manchester United, PSG and Real Madrid are also looking to bring in Fernandes this summer, which could derail Tottenham’s transfer plans.

However, it remains to be seen if they are able to strike a deal and sign Fernandes as well as Tonali over the coming months.
