Tottenham are 'well placed' to re-sign player just sold to Man United
Tottenham fans should not be concerned about the club's decision to sell highly-rated young winger Tynan Thompson to Manchester United.
That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that the Lilywhites are right to prioritise their short-term fortunes with their summer business.
Thompson departed for Old Trafford earlier this week for a package worth £8million, with his family reportedly keen to move away from the North London area.
The decision prompted a frustrated reaction from Spurs supporters, but Wyness believes the club are right to be focusing on the here and now this summer.
Tottenham have also lost Luka Vuskovic in recent weeks, while Lucas Bergvall is also angling for a move away after growing frustrated.
Wyness has made it clear that the "pathway" for young talent is "not quite right" at Spurs at the moment, but also outlined that it is not a problem worth considering right now.
Tynan Thompson clauses 'important' for Tottenham
Everton’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Spurs' 20 per cent sell-on clause on Thompson is a nice addition for them as part of the deal.
The North London outfit also have matching rights on future bids for the 18-year-old, something Wyness sees as being "quite important" for them in future.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, the Scottish businessman explained why Tottenham fans shouldn't be concerned by the number of young players leaving the club.
"I think the 20 per cent sell-on and the matching rights are quite important. If it is genuinely true the family are moving up north, then I think everything works out perfectly well," he said.
"As we've discussed, the minutes and pathway once again maybe aren't quite right at Spurs at the moment, but they've still got that chance if he comes through to be able to get him back.
"So I think they've done the right thing right now. They know that there are immediate issues, and they seem to be focused like a laser beam on getting that right for this next season.
"I know there have been two great young talents that have gone from Spurs, but that's part of the short-term pain that they have to go through. There's no doubt they still have options to get them back if they turn out to be the stars that they hope they will be."
Spurs star tipped for Morgan Gibbs-White part-exchange
Former Tottenham scout Bryan King told Football Insider that a part-exchange deal involving Bergvall and Morgan Gibbs-White is "certainly doable" this summer.
The Lilywhites remain big admirers of the Nottingham Forest star, while the Reds have already seen an offer rejected for Bergvall this summer.
King believes that a player plus cash deal could potentially be on the cards if Gibbs-White makes it clear that he wants to leave the City Ground.
The ex-recruitment man made it clear that any chance of that happening is likely to hinge on how loyal the England international feels to Forest now that they d no longer have European football.
