Tottenham’s transfer plan revealed ahead of January window
Tottenham Hotspur are planning to be far more restrained in the transfer market in January, sources have told Football Insider.
The Lilywhites splashed over £300million on new signings this summer, but do not have the capacity to spend with such vigour again a few months down the line.
It is understood that the North London outfit will target specific areas of Roberto De Zerbi’s squad to be strengthened, rather than a continuation of the recent wholesale changes.
Sources say that Tottenham have no plans for another “big-money” window, and will instead focus on getting value for money from cost-effective targets.
Spurs remain winless after their opening five Premier League games, a run of form which has highlighted clear issues within the squad.
The club hierarchy are planning to help rectify those in January, but are not prepared to commit a similar amount of money to what they did in the summer.
Tottenham to prioritise attacking additions
Football Insider revealed last week that the addition of a new centre-back is not a top priority for Spurs in January, despite the recent links with Bayern Munich’s Kim Min-Jae.
Instead, De Zerbi and Co. have their eyes fixed on bolstering their ranks at the opposite end of the pitch.
Tottenham have Dominic Solanke and Omar Marmoush as their only options to lead the line as out-and-out strikers, and both are still waiting for their first league goal involvement of the season.
Spurs’ attacking issues have been so prevalent of late that they have even been linked with a surprise move to sign free agent Mauro Icardi following his departure from Galatasaray in the summer.
The striker department is likely to be towards the top of De Zerbi’s list for winter reinforcements, but any particularly lucrative deals are likely to be out of reach.
Tottenham make Dejan Kulusevski contract decision
Football Insider revealed last week that Tottenham are “more than happy” to discuss a new contract with Dejan Kulusevski if he can prove his fitness in the coming months.
The Sweden international hasn’t played for the Lilywhites since May 2025, but is now finally approaching the end of a very lengthy recovery from a serious knee injury.
Kulusevski is out of contract in the summer of 2028, but Spurs intend to “tread carefully” with his return to action, and are keen to hand him a new deal if he doesn’t break down again.
The former Juventus man notched 21 goal involvements during the 2024-25 campaign, and is set to provide the Spurs squad with a huge boost when he returns to the fold.
