Tottenham's updated stance on Folarin Balogun deal revealed
Tottenham Hotspur have Monaco striker Folarin Balogun on their shortlist as a potential striker reinforcement this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
The Lilywhites are big admirers of the 25-year-old and are keeping tabs on him as one of several options to bolster their frontline before the end of the summer window.
The American international is into the final two years of his contract with the Ligue 1 side, and is facing an uncertain future as the 1 September transfer deadline approaches.
Sources have indicated that Monaco would be willing to cash in on the frontman in the coming weeks, provided that they receive a suitable offer for him.
Tottenham are keen to add both competition and cover for Dominic Solanke, and are on the hunt to add a new face to their squad in that department permanently.
Balogun is firmly among their options for the position, but at the moment, their interest has not advanced beyond the initial stages.
Tottenham impressed by Folarin Balogun
Tottenham have a lack of out-and-out strikers in their group at the moment, and that is something that Roberto De Zerbi is keen to address before the deadline.
Solanke and Richarlison are currently the Lilywhites’ only genuine options to lead the line, and both have struggled for fitness at times in recent years.
With that in mind, the boss and the recruitment team are keen to see a third option come through the door as soon as possible, and Balogun is a clear candidate at this stage.
The North London outfit are impressed with the way he has developed since leaving Arsenal back in 2022, and were particularly enamoured by him at this summer’s World Cup.
Balogun netted three goals before his controversial red card in the last 32, as he picked up where he left off following an eye-catching club season.
The forward struck 19 goals in all competitions for Monaco, and also added a further four assists in league action.
That form has proven enough to see him catch Tottenham’s attention, and they are potentially prepared to hand him his second chance in the Premier League.
Tottenham will get marquee deal done before the deadline
Football Insider revealed last week that there is an expectation that Tottenham will get their move for Manchester City winger Savinho over the line before the deadline.
The capital club have been heavily linked with the Brazilian throughout the last 12 months, and are finally now closing in on a permanent deal to sign him.
All parties are understood to be keen for the transfer to happen, and it is increasingly likely that Savinho will become a Spurs player before 1 September.
He is not capable of playing through the middle as a central striker, but will at least provide additional quality for Tottenham in the wide areas.
