Tottenham idol issues 'unbelievable' Rodrigo Bentancur claim after teammate speaks out
Paul Robinson has heaped praise on Rodrigo Bentancur for his "unbelievable" displays for Tottenham in recent weeks.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one said the 25-year-old has stepped up in the "big moments" for Antonio Conte's side.
Bentancur scored two goals in three minutes as Spurs recovered to beat Leeds United 4-3 on Saturday (12 November).
As quoted by Evening Standard (13 November), the Uruguay international was hailed “one of the most underrated players in the world” by teammate Dejan Kulusevski after the match.
Kulusevski and Bentancur arrived together from Juventus in January of this year.
When asked by Football Insider for his
"I like the two of Bentancur and (Pierre-Emile) Hojbjerg, even though I think [Yves] Bissouma was unlucky to be left out.
"If Conte is to play two in midfield it has to be Bentancur and another. Bentancur has been absolutely unbelievable this season. He is capable both going forward and defending.
"He dragged the team with him at the weekend. In the big moments he is stepping up.
"For me, he is one of the best centre-midfielders in the Premier League.
"The recruitment of Bentancur and Kulusevski was a masterstroke. The due diligence had been done on both players. They are two of the best signings the club has made."
Bentancur has contributed five goals and two assists in 21 appearances across all competitions.
His contract in north London expires at the end of June 2026.
