Tottenham Insider: This may be the real reason Nuno won't drop Dier amid 'dressing room' view
Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo will continue to play “his man in the dressing room” Eric Dier – with his Portugese upbringing a key factor.
That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
European football journalist Alex Barker took to Twitter to criticise a particularly poor few seconds from Dier during Sunday’s loss to Arsenal.
He showed a passage of play in which Dier made life hard for himself and instead of choosing an easy pass, he held onto the ball for too long and lost possession.
Dier was also criticised by some sections of the Tottenham fanbase on social media but Wenham claims his place in the team is safe.
“Eric Dier is very interesting,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He’s very fortunate that we have had two Portuguese managers come in one after the other.
“He was born in Cheltenham but he grew up in Portugal. He speaks the language and has a Portuguese style about him on the pitch.
“I get the impression these managers come in and see him as their guy in the dressing room if that makes sense.
“They see someone they can relate with because of their own upbringing but he also has that English bulldozer style.
“Is there still a place for him in the side? Let’s not forget he was nominated for the Premier League player of the month for August.
“People are very quick to jump on his back. He has been exposed at times this season and if those wins had been draws or losses I think it would be a different story.
“I expect him to stay in the side.”
