Maguire: 19th July could be D-day as Romano issues major Kane-Tottenham update

Harry Kane’s future at Tottenham could depend on if fans are allowed back into stadiums after the UK exits lockdown on 19th July.

That is according to finance expert and Football Insider columnist Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively after Fabrizio Romano issued a major update in the Kane transfer saga.

The reputable transfer guru tweeted on 21st June that Man City had submitted a £100million bid for the 28-year-old.

Raheem Sterling, Aymeric Laporte and Gabriel Jesus respectively are also reported to be being floated as possible makeweights as part of the offer.

Maguire told this site on 20th June that Spurs won’t be forced into selling Kane this summer out of financial necessity.

He did, however, claim that a new Spurs boss could be tempted to sell the England skipper in order to fund a sweeping recruitment drive.

But the spreadsheet wiz argues that Spurs may not need to jettison their talisman if they can unlock the full earning power of their stadium ahead of 2021-22.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “A lot will depend on where we are in four weeks time in terms of the return to full capacity stadiums.

“If the noises for the government are positive, Spurs will have the benefit of the stadium which generates more revenue than any other in the country.

“That would help to alleviate any necessity to sell a player of Kane’s stature. in order to fund recruitment.

“It won’t influence that particular deal directly but it might have more of an influence in terms of recruitment in the same way that it will for every club in the Premier League.”
