Tottenham have approached Montpellier with numerous enquiries about defender Nordi Mukiele, according to a report.
French news outlet Le 10 Sport claims that Spurs have launched their hunt to sign Mukiele, 20, ahead of the summer transfer window after regularly scouting him while playing for Ligue 1 high-flyers Montpellier.
It is understood that Marseille are also keeping close tabs on the 6ft 1 defender, who can play at both right-back or in a more central defensive role.
This season, the France Under-21 international has made 35 appearances in all competitions for Montpellier, who sit sixth in Ligue 1 with six games to play.
Mukiele signed for Montpellier last January from Stade Laval having began his career in the youth ranks at Paris FC.
Football Insider verdict
Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino really likes to deploy a back three system and Mukiele is someone who would fit that perfectly. He can play on the right side of a back three and also offer a right-back option if Spurs had to switch to a back four. In the back three formation, the French defender can also play as a right wing-back, so he would be a very handy signing for Tottenham. However there’s no suggestion that Kieran Trippier or Serge Aurier would be leaving North London and with Kyle Walker-Peters waiting in the wings, there’s little chance that Spurs need Mukiele.
In other Tottenham news, Spurs are in the hunt to sign this £25,000-a-week flyer who is willing to quit a title-holding club.
