Tottenham news: 'Massive' training ground claim made after Yaya Toure reveal - pundit
Alex McLeish has insisted Yaya Toure would be a “shrewd appointment” for Tottenham in an academy coaching capacity.
The former Scotland boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 39-year-old could have a “massive influence” on players and coaches at the training ground.
As reported by the Evening Standard on Tuesday (10 May), Tottenham are set to hold talks with Toure over a permanent academy coaching role as he works towards his Uefa A licence.
The Ivory Coast legend has been working with Spurs’ under-18s under the supervision of the senior academy staff.
Toure initially worked one day a week before stepping up his involvement in recent months.
McLeish insisted he could prove to be a very smart hire for Tottenham.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “A great player. I’m sure that all the students, the wannabe coaches and wannabe players will look up to him definitely in a big way.
“Of course, that’s a massive influence. It’s a very shrewd appointment as well by Spurs.
“You would think that Yaya Toure will be looking at predecessors, ex-teammates doing so well in the game now.
“He’ll be saying: ‘I want a piece of that. I want to still be involved in football,’ because of his love for the game.”
Toure, who left manchester City and England in 2018, hung up his boots back in January 2020.
He started his coaching career at Olimpik Donetsk in 2021 and was also at Akhmat Grozny before joining the Spurs setup.
