COMMENT

Tottenham fought back from conceding two early goals to pull off a 2-2 draw in their Champions League clash away at Juventus on Tuesday. A double from Gonzalo Higuain, one from the penalty spot, in the opening 10 minutes threatened to put the game beyond Spurs but Mauricio Pochettino's men showed real heart and desire to pull themselves back into the clash. The home side were reliant on defensive blocks and some smart saves from Gianluigi Buffon to retain their advantage, but Harry Kane found a way to round the Italian veteran and halve the deficit. Juve could well have extended their lead with another penalty late in the first 45 minutes, but Higuain saw his hat trick attempt cannon off the crossbar, before Christian Eriksen's second half free kick levelled the scores. Goalkeeper and defenders

Hugo Lloris - 7: 

Had very little opportunity to do anything about Higuain's opener, while he was inches away from denying the first penalty. Spent much of the rest of the match watching on as Spurs pushed for a fight back.

Serge Aurier - 4:

Huge question marks over whether he has the temperament or defensive nous to be a regular in the starting XI. Was rash with his challenge at the end of the first half which could have led to Juve leading 3-1, and was booked early in the second half for a foul after he gifted possession once again. Suspended for the second leg now.

Davinson Sanchez - 7: 

Questions will have to be asked over the whole back line for the opening goal, but other than that he looked solid. Showed off his pace when tested and is continuing to grow at the heart of defence.

Jan Vertonghen - 8:

A solid performance, he was a calming influence after Juventus' early dominance threatened to overwhelm Spurs. Marshals the back four well and kept the Italian's quiet for big chunks of the game. Pulled off a great tackle to deny a clear cut scoring opportunity late on.

Ben Davies - 5: 

An absolute shocker of an opener for the Welshman. Potentially most at fault for Higuain's opener before conceding a penalty for a clumsy foul to make it 2-0. Grew into the game though and was a threat in the final third too.

Midfielders

Mousa Dembele- 9: 

A spectator as Juventus took an early lead, the Belgian enforcer took charge and stamped his authority in the centre of the park. He was full of energy, tackling anything that moved and moving the ball quickly to give his side some impetus. A truly outstanding performance to run the show and help his side to a draw.

Eric Dier - 6: 

Always a quiet performer for Spurs, Dier did not have the desired effect for the opening part of the game, but when Tottenham grew into the clash, he looked much more comfortable. Simple, and mostly effective.

Christian Eriksen - 9:

Absolutely pivotal in earning Spurs a point, he was a constant thorn in Juventus' side with his vision and guile in supporting the attack. His free kick should have been dealt with better by Buffon but it showed bravery and ingenuity to try and pull it off, and his audacity earned his club a critical result.

Forwards

Erik Lamela - 6: 

Of the Tottenham attack it was Lamela who struggled to have the desired impact. His dribbles struggled to threaten the back line but he did show some good close control and incisive passing.

Dele Alli - 7: 

As with the entire team, struggled to cope in the opening minutes but had more of an influence as the game wore on. Dished out a sublime pass for Kane to score Spurs' first goal and won the free kick which led to the equaliser.

Harry Kane - 7: 

After being shellshocked by the Italian side's to goals, Kane found himself with more opportunities to try and get his side back into the game. Denied at point blank range by Buffon, he went on to round the veteran and halve the deficit.

Substitutes

Heung-Min Son (83') - 5: 

Had very little to do as Mauricio Pochettino left it late to make his substitutions. Used his pace to drive Juventus back and try and hold on to a well earned draw, but there will be questions about why he was not given a starting role.

Lucas Moura (88') - N/A: 

Coming off the bench to make his first ever appearance for the club, he will be hoping for more minutes in the future. Did not even break a sweat.

Victor Wanyama - (90') - N/A: 

Coming on in added time to run down the clock and bolster the middle of the park. Faces a struggle to break into the starting XI if Mousa Dembele continues to perform the way he did. In other Tottenham news,
