Ndombele is a 'disaster' and 'not fit to wear the Tottenham shirt' - pundit
Noel Whelan has panned Tanguy Ndombele as “not fit to wear the shirt” for a struggling Tottenham team after today’s “disaster” showing at Arsenal.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United striker delivered his verdict on the Spurs star after his team’s 3-1 defeat at Emirates Stadium.
Ndombele, 24, was named in the starting XI for the second Premier League match in succession and fourth consecutively in all competitions.
But he was subbed after 68 minutes and his presence coincided with a second London derby mauling in eight days.
It is no coincidence that Tottenham rank bottom among the 20 Premier League clubs for distance covered in matches this season.
“Ndombele’s such a frustrating player, he’s gifted but there’s something missing – heart, energy, desire,” Whelan told Football Insider.

“Some Tottenham fans are unhappy when he doesn’t play, but when he does, he doesn’t do enough.
“There is the odd great touch, great moment, but it’s not consistent. You don’t win football matches with flashes of quality.
“You look at the Pochettino team, the energy they had and this one is nowhere near that. Ndombele is nowhere near that level. Is he fit to wear that great shirt? You’d say not.
“They’ve been thrashed at Arsenal and that’s a disaster for Tottenham.”
Ndombele did not make the Spurs team for their opening four Premier League matches of the campaign after pushing to leave during the summer.
The ex-Lyon man has struggled to make a consistent impact under four managers since signing for a club-record £54million in 2019.
