'The Kid...Wow' - Barely-seen Tottenham player could save club £45m: Phillips Exclusive
Joe Rodon could save Tottenham £45million following his impressive start, according to Kevin Phillips.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the 2000 European Golden Shoe winner said Jose Mourinho will be “delighted” with the 23-year-old who has proved that he can “play against the best”.
Rodon was a late substitute in Spurs’ 2-0 Premier League win against Arsenal today as Jose Mourinho recalled Toby Alderweireld to the starting XI.
As revealed by Football Insider on Tuesday the London club are continuing to monitor Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar who was Mourinho’s top defensive target in the summer.
Speaking on his Here We Go podcast, Fabrizio Romano claimed the Italian giants would accept an offer of £45million for the Slovakia international “tomorrow”.
When asked by Football Insider if Spurs needed to bolster their squad with the addition of Skriniar in January, Phillips said:

“In terms of splashing cash on a defender, I do not think that is going to happen.
“The kid Rodon has come in and, wow, proved that he can play against the best. He held his own against one of the top teams in the Premier League in Chelsea.
“Why would you rush out and splash the cash? Rodon was brought in to eventually break into that starting eleven. He has been handed an opportunity early and taken it.
“Credit to the young lad. I am sure Mourinho is delighted with him.”
In other Tottenham news, Kevin Phillips has told Football Insider that Gareth Bale is central to intriguing dressing room reveal.
