Tottenham are preparing to take the £25million deadline day fight for Saido Berahino down to the wire, Football Insider sources understand.

The West Brom striker will be at the centre of a three-way transfer tussle on Monday as he attempts to engineer a move before the 11pm deadline.

Newcastke had a £21million bid for Berahino rejected on Sunday, Stoke are in negotiations with West Brom and Spurs are ready to make a late move before the winter window closes.

Steve McClaren’s team want to complete two striker deals on deadline day as they also close in on signing of Seydou Doumbia on loan from Roma via CSKA Moscow.

Newcastle are prepared to go as high as £25million to get Berahino, while Stoke are in contact with West Brom to pay beyond the £20million mark.

The preference of Berahino, 22, is to move to Tottenham, and club chairman Daniel Levy is biding his time before entering the bidding.

Berahino bait: Pritchard is set to complete a loan move to West Brom

A Spurs source has told Football Insider that Spurs want to land a striker on deadline day after their move for Fulham’s Moussa Dembele was on the verge of collapse on Sunday night.

Intriguingly, Tottenham youngster Alex Pritchard could be used as bait to bring West Brom to the negotiating table.

The 22-year-old playmaker is set to undergo a medical on Monday and complete a loan move to the Hawthorns until the end of the season.
