Rebel Tottenham trio will be 'furious' after Athletic update - Kenny

Giovani Lo Celso, Davinson Sanchez and Cristian Romero will be “furious” if they are fined by Tottenham over recent international controversy.

So says ex-Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the South American trio.

The players flew to South America to join up with their national teams despite Spurs’ instruction to the contrary.

The Athletic reported on 6 September that all three will now face fines from the club once they return from quarantine in Croatia.

Lo Celso, Sanchez and Romero were all unavailable as Spurs were thumped 3-0 by Crystal Palace yesterday (11 September).

Kenny has mixed feelings about Tottenham’s decision to discipline the trio but claims that they will be livid to learn the news.

“You can’t stop them from going on international duty,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“Circumstances over the past 18 months are difficult and the pandemic is still going on. But it will be really tough to fine them.

“I do get where the club are coming from. At the end of the day, the club pays the wages.

“If they are going to miss club games, it’s a difficult situation for the club, the players and the countries.

“If you don’t go, you upset your country. But if you do go, you upset your club. It’s a lose-lose situation.

“You’d be furious if you were fined, but I don’t know if I’d go in the first place. Maybe they should have stayed home and not put themselves in that risk.
