Sources: Club in advanced talks to sign Tottenham star Steven Bergwijn after twist

Ajax are in advanced talks to sign Tottenham star Steven Bergwijn following developments in recent hours, Football Insider understands.

Spurs are willing to sell the wide forward but won’t drop their £26m asking price.

A Tottenham source has told Football Insider that negotiations are advancing with Ajax keen to make Bergwijn their marquee summer signing.

A breakthrough in talks is believed to be close and all parties are increasingly confident a deal could be in place by the end of this week.

It comes as Borussia Dortmund close in on the capture of Ajax striker Sebastien Haller.

The former West Ham man is in talks to join the German big hitters in a deal worth around £33million.

Spurs are willing to let Bergwijn go as they fund a major summer recruitment drive of their own.

Harry Winks is another senior star who could depart permanently, with Everton keen on luring him to Merseyside in this window.

Bergwijn struggled for game time at Spurs last season and fell further down the pecking order following the January loan capture of Dejan Kulusevski.

He was wanted by Ajax in the winter window and came close to joining but a deal between the two clubs could not be agreed.

The Dutch forward is eager to return to his homeland after making his name at Ajax’s big rivals PSV Eindhoven.

He has made 83 appearances for Spurs, scoring eight goals and supplying 10 assists.
