Tottenham winger Georges-Kevin Nkoudou is set to exit the club on either a permanent or loan deal in the January transfer window after failing to impress manager Mauricio Pochettino, according to a report.
Football news website football.london claim the the 22-year-old speed machine has failed to live up to expectations since signing from Olympique Marseille in the summer of 2016, having failed to nail down a regular place in the starting XI.
He has managed to appear just 22 times for Spurs, his first and only goal coming in the 3-0 win over Apoel Nicosia earlier this season, with just five of those outings coming this season, one in the starting line up.
Earlier in December Pochettino told football.london: “He is not showing this condition to play. He needs to show more.
“But you know if a player is not involved too much it’s because we believe that they need to show more to deserve to play.”
As a result of his failure to demonstrate why he deserves to play, it is said the winger could well be shipped out temporarily, or even potentially permanently, in January.
Football Insider verdict
In nearly 18 months at Spurs, Nkoudou has not done much to convince anyone he is worthy of being a member of the first team squad, and it should come as no surprise he could be moved on next month. He is young and raw, but at 22-years-old it is the stage of his career where he needs to be nailing down a spot in the starting XI. Pochettino’s tactics, opting against natural wingers in favour of wing backs, does not suit the Frenchman’s style and for that very reason he himself should be looking for a January exit, or face a career in which he remains a bench warmer as a result of his failure to develop his talent to the required standard.
In other Tottenham transfer news, Spurs are keen on snapping up a speed machine with a bargain release clause in his contract.
