Tottenham star makes honest admission on contract situation with just 18 months left
Tottenham star Erik Lamela has admitted that he is not thinking about how long he has left on his contract at the club despite just 18 months remaining on his current deal.
The Argentinian attacker has had a mixed time at Spurs since arriving from Italian giants Roma in the summer of 2013, having made 133 appearances for the north London club.
Much of his time with Tottenham has been spent on the sidelines as a result of injury, with his latest layoff keeping him out of action for over a year due to an issue with his hip.
However, despite his lack of playing time, the 23-cap Argentina international insists that he is happy at the club and that he feels a firm part of the first team set up, although revealed a new contract was not on his mind ahead of the 2019 expiry date on his current deal.
He told the Guardian: “I’m happy at Tottenham
“If not, I would have left. I feel a part of the club, I’m at home here.
“I am not thinking about how long is left on my contract.”
This season has seen Lamela make 12 appearances for Spurs after recovering from his long-term layoff, chipping in with two assists in what has been just three starts for the club, although he has featured in every one of the club’s last 10 league outings.
He will be hoping for more game time on Saturday when Tottenham play host to League Two side Newport County in the FA Cup, the fourth tier team having beaten Leeds United to reach the fourth round.
In other Tottenham news, the club are in advanced negotiations to secure the signing of a £22million international attacker.
