Kieran Maguire: Tottenham board 'disgraceful' and treating fans with 'sheer contempt' after latest reveal

The aftermath of the Super League was a false dawn and Tottenham have returned to treating their fans with “sheer contempt”.

That is the view of finance boffin Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Spurs supporters’ relations with the board.

The Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust revealed on 7 October that the board had rejected a request for a meeting to discuss long-term strategy.

In a statement, THST wrote that the club “refused to communicate, despite saying in public that its door remains open.”

Tottenham have failed to address their refusal to meet with one of the club’s most influential pressure groups.

All six Premier League teams who joined the botched breakaway Super League promised better communication with fans thereafter.

The clubs have now escaped financial punishment after Uefa dropped proceedings against them in late September.

And Maguire insists that the era of pandering to so-called ‘legacy fans’ is already over.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “I think the original mea culpa of the Premier League Super League clubs has evaporated.

“We are now back to tokenism in terms of true engagement and listening to fans’ concerns.

“Fans are there to be held in contempt, monetised, and provide a backdrop for the television audience.

“This is indicative of the sheer contempt in which Spurs fans and many other fans are held. It’s disgraceful.

“And that is by the people who are in charge of the day-to-day running of their club, who are meant to represent them.
