Real Madrid could offer attacking midfield sensation Marco Asensio to Tottenham as part of a mega-money bid for Harry Kane in the summer, according to a report.
Spanish news outlet Don Balon claim that Real president Florentino Perez is only willing to let highly rated Asensio, 22, leave the club if it helps him acquire a Galactico in return.
It is said that Perez will first try to use Asensio in order to sign David De Gea from Manchester United and, if that pursuit fails, will then offer the Spaniard in part exchange for second choice Kane.
The Tottenham goal king has developed into one of the world’s outstanding players following his stunning scoring exploits in recent years.
Kane, 24, has taken his game to a new level this season, and his brilliantly taken goal in Spurs’ memorable 2-2 Champions League draw on Tuesday night was his seventh in six games in the competition in the current campaign and his 33rd goal in 34 matches in all competitions.
Asensio is a key man for fourth-placed La Liga club Real, scoring eight goals and five assists from out wide in his 34 appearances across all competitions for the Spanish giants this season.
But he was benched in favour of Isco for the Champions League holders’ 3-1 last-16 first leg win over Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night.
Football Insider verdict:
Swap deals were once rare, but they are all in vogue again following some remarkable January deals, particularly the Alexis Sanchez-Henrikh Mkhitaryan swap between Arsenal and Manchester United. It is certainly not beyond the bounds of possibility that Real will make a huge move for Kane in the summer given his astonishing consistency. They certainly don’t have a centre-forward of the Spurs man’s calibre. But, then, every other club bar perhaps Bayern Munich, who can call upon Robert Lewandowski, are in the same boat.
In other Tottenham news, Daniel Levy has jetted off on a transatlantic mission to seal a sensational £20million-a-year Spurs deal.
