Tottenham tipped to 'push hard' to get Ings 'deal over the line' after Telegraph reveal - Whelan
Noel Whelan has heaped praise on Danny Ings as Tottenham reportedly make the Southampton striker their top target this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds United forward tipped director of football Fabio Paratici to “push hard” to secure the 28-year-old’s services.
Ings has less than 12 months left on his contract at St. Mary’s.
According to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein (5th July), the England international has turned down the club’s offer of a new deal.
The Telegraph’s Matt Law claimed on July 13th that Ings’ contract situation has alerted Spurs, who have made the striker their number one target in this window.
The Lilywhites want the Saints centre-forward to play alongside Harry Kane, with the club still determined to keep their talismanic number 10.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if Ings would be a welcome addition, Whelan said: “Ings has just been brilliant for Southampton.
“He has been their top goalscorer since he’s been there.
“He can run in behind, come short and bring others into play and he scores all kinds of goals. There is no doubt about it, he is a real handful for defenders.
“Spurs haven’t had a player like that for a long time because while Ings will play on the shoulder of defenders, Kane likes to come deep and pick up the ball in that number 10 position. They definitely need somebody like that.
“Ings is a proven goalscorer in the Premier League and that is why I think they’ll push hard to get the deal over the line.
“He still has another year left on his contract at Southampton though, and perhaps they will dig their heels in and keep him for one more season. I think everyone expects them to cash in now though.”
