Noel Whelan has tipped Tottenham to sign Ryan Fraser this summer and claimed the winger has all the attributes needed to become one of the best wing-backs in the league.
The former Leeds United forward, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, insisted it is a position Jose Mourinho will have to address in the transfer market with Spurs having allowed so many of their full-backs to leave.
The 26-year-old is into the last two months of his contract at Bournemouth and will become a free agent on 30 June.
As revealed by Football Insider, the Scotland international has told friends he is keen on a switch to north London if the Lilywhites make an approach this summer.
The winger has had an indifferent season on the south coast. In 32 appearances in all competitions, he has scored once and provided four assists.
When asked by Football Insider whether Fraser would fit into Mourinho’s plans at Spurs, Whelan said: “Tottenham have got rid of a lot of wing-backs recently so there is definitely an opening because they have no replaced them.
“He has the athleticism to play that role, is dangerous going forward, and has the work rate and pace to get back and defend.
“The game has been transformed. It is not about getting to the half-way line and stopping. You are a defender and a winger.
“It is a great, exciting role to play but it demands a player with a certain character and level of fitness to do that.
“Ryan Fraser has got everything there to go and play in that role at a very high standard in the Premier League.”
Fraser has been utilised a wingback in the past by Eddie Howe and that may prove a big selling point for Mourinho.
Opportunities further forward may be limited with a wealth of attackers at Spurs.
