Tottenham are preparing to table a £38million club-record bid for Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi this week, according to a report.

Sky Italy claim on their website that Spurs are closely pursuing the Argentina international and are ready to smash the club-record £27million fee paid for Erik Lamela three years ago.

This comes as the Londoners close in on a £16.5million deal for Vincent Janssen, with the Holland striker set to complete move to White Hart Lane this week.

That has not put off Spurs chiefs from pushing hard for Icardi.

Inter have recently been taken over by Chinese investors and it is believed that the side are waiting to see the value of the final offer before evaluating with the new owners.

It has been claimed that Tottenham's rivals Arsenal are also keen on the 23-year-0ld forward in addition to Atletico Madrid.

Spurs are looking to add to their striker ranks this summer as boss Mauricio Pochettino aims to take the goal scoring burden off England international Harry Kane, who scored 28 goals in 50 appearances in all competitions in the recently completed season.

A number of strikers have already been linked with a move to North London this summer but Michy Batshuayi has joined Chelsea for £33million and Breel Embolo signed for Schalke.

However, Icardi could be the most exciting one to Spurs fans as the San Siro ace is considered to have a big future in the game.

The Inter captain bagged 16 goals and four assists in Serie A for the Italian giants in 2015-16, but was left out out of the highly competitive Argentina squad for this summer's Copa America.
