Tottenham told to complete signing of 'perfect' Emerson Royal replacement after update from Italy - Robinson

Paul Robinson has claimed Denzel Dumfries would be the “perfect” replacement for Emerson Royal at Tottenham.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one said Dumfries, 26, “is a top player” who is “brilliant” at both ends of the pitch.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato (8 November), Spurs are interested in signing Dumfries from Inter Milan next year.

The report states Antonio Conte’s side would be open to including Emerson Royal in a potential deal for the Netherlands international.

Dumfries has two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract at the San Siro.

When asked by Football Insider if the wing-back would be a welcome addition at Hotspur Way, Robinson said: “Dumfries is a top player.

“After the Euros, I was adamant he would be coming to the Premier League. He was heavily linked with Everton at the time. I have to say I was very surprised that he did not come to the Premier League after that tournament.

“I have watched him very closely. He is brilliant.

“He is athletic and has great ability going forward but he can also defend.

“The way Conte wants to play, he would be perfect. I would love to see him at Tottenham.”

Dumfries has been in impressive form for Inter Milan in the 2022-23 campaign.

He has contributed two goals and three assists in 20 appearances across all competitions.
