Tottenham willing to sensationally sell star for £50m+ amid dressing room harmony fears - Times

Tottenham are sensationally willing to sell Toby Alderweireld this summer after he snubbed their final £110,000-a-week contract offer, according to a report.
The Times claim that talks between Spurs and the Belgium international over a new deal have reached a deadlock as the club have no intention of yielding to his £150,000-a-week demands.
It is said that manager Mauricio Pochettino has now given the green light to sell Alderweireld, who turns 29 next week, in the forthcoming transfer window.
The Times report that Tottenham recognise that this summer represents the last opportunity to sell Alderweireld for his full market value of £50million-plus given that his contract is due to expire in June 2019.
Spurs have the option to extend it for a further 12 months but a clause also allows the centre-back to leave next summer for £25.4million before the final 14 days of the transfer window.
Intriguingly, the Times report that fear of dressing room unrest is key to Tottenham’s decision as there are fears of upsetting other players if they cave in to Alderweireld’s demands.
Football Insider verdict:
Selling Kyle Walker for £50million was one thing. Offloading Alderweireld, one of the premier centre-backs in not only the Premier League but the entire world, would be on another level entirely. Spurs are clearly preparing their fanbase for his departure and this is stage one of what promises to be a painful and drawn-out exit. The Belgian has been outstanding for three seasons and delivered performances on a consistent level that no Spurs defender has matched for the last four years. Tottenham are inviting huge trouble if they cash in on their centre-back star.
