Gabriel Agbonlahor

Aston Villa legend Gabby Agbonlahor joined Football Insider's punditry team in November 2020. The Villans’ all-time leading Premier League goalscorer is loving life in the media spotlight and has no problem riling up supporters with his views - watch out Leeds fans! One of the most in-demand pundits at the moment, Gabby is also a regular on Sky Sports and talkSPORT.

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Man United star Luke Shaw is the "best left-back in the Premier League" and is fully deserving of a bumper new deal.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 27-year-old has looked like a "new player" under Erik ten Hag's management.

Sources told this site last month (21 February) that Man United left-back Shaw is close to agreeing a new contract at the club.

The England international's current deal is set to expire in 2024 after the Red Devils activated his one-year extension clause late last year.

Shaw has registered one goal and four assists in 31 appearances as a regular starter this season - and has even filled in at centre-back despite the availability of natural options Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof.

He currently earns a reported wage of £150,000-a-week.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “He’s the best in the Premier League, 100%.

“He’s been Mr. Versatile for them this season, his injury problems are all behind him – and he’s a really reliable player.

“Ben Chilwell has pushed him for England, but I can’t see anyone getting past Shaw for the next few years.

“He’s good technically, he’s good physically – he’s just a top player.

“Giving him this big new deal is a no-brainer for Man United, really. He looks like a new player under Erik ten Hag.”

Shaw was left out of the lineup for five straight league games between August and October earlier this season – sparking fears that he could quit the Old Trafford club.
