Arsenal supporters took to Twitter to criticise Petr Cech for his performance in their side's Premier League defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday.

Alexandre Lacazette had put the visitors 1-0 up after 14 minutes at St James' Park as they looked to finish what has been a wretched league campaign in style.

But Newcastle came from behind to secure a memorable victory through goals from Ayoze Perez and Matt Richie.

It was the fourth consecutive win for Rafael Benitez's side and put them on 41 points with five games remaining, 13 clear of relegation.

By contrast, Arsenal, who reached the Europa League semi-finals with a 6-3 aggregate win over CSKA Moscow in Russia on Thursday, are the only team in England's top four divisions yet to earn an away league point in 2018.

One player who was the victim of the supporters' ire for his display in the north-east was goalkeeper Cech.

One suggested that the 2015 capture from Chelsea, who the Express claim earns £100,000-a-week, was the worst signing of the Emirates Stadium era, while another claimed that Arsene Wenger should be sacked for playing him.
