Aston Villa midfielder Jordan Veretout is wanted by Celta Vigo and Real Betis, according to a report.

Veretout has been linked with a move following Villa's relegation and it is said the 23-year-old has attracted interest from clubs in the Premier League, Ligue 1 and La Liga.

Spanish football website Atlantico claim that Gustavo Poyet would like to bring him to Real Betis, while Celta Vigo have also enquired about the Frenchman's availability.

Veretout only joined Villa last summer from French club Nantes after spurning Leicester's advances to link up with then manager Tim Sherwood.

The former France Under-21 midfielder was a regular under Sherwood and Remi Garde but was frozen out towards the end of the campaign under caretaker boss Eric Black.

Vertout is only one year into a five-year contract that he signed when he joined last summer, which should enable Villa to recoup much of the £7.5million fee they spent to bring him from France.

Football Insider reported on Thursday that Aston Villa manager Roberto Di Matteo’s is hoping to create a tight-knit group at Villa Park as he looks to remove any dead wood.

The Italian is expected to make big changes to the squad that finished 17 points adrift of safety in the Premier League this season.

Earlier this week he gave his first press conference alongside ambitious new owner Tony Xia, and revealed the hope of signing Bournemouth club captain Tommy Elphick in the coming days.
