Aston Villa are prioritising three positions this summer as they look to strengthen their squad in readiness for Champions League football, sources have told Football Insider

Unai Emery wants to bring in a new full-back, who can play at both left and right-back, as well as a striker and a box-to-box midfielder.

Villa’s qualification for the Champions League eases any profit and sustainability (PSR) issues they have and means there will be funds available to spend once the transfer window reopens.

Aston Villa to improve squad after Champions League qualification

It’s been an excellent season for Villa after Tottenham’s defeat to Manchester City ensured they will finish in the top four of the Premier League.

Emery has come in for plenty of praise after taking the club from mid-table obscurity to being a force to be reckoned with over the past 18 months.

After the Spaniard signed a new contract at Villa Park last month, Football Insider revealed the club are now looking to make some “superstar signings”.

Emery is likely discussing potential targets with Villa chief Monchi as the club could now be in the market for higher-calibre players after securing their place in the Champions League.

The Nigerian forward will be available on a free after rejecting a fresh attempt by the Foxes to extend his current deal.

Villa are also interested in Brest left-back Bradley Locko after Football Insider revealed they sent scouts to watch him in action against Reims on 10 May

While incomings are likely to be the order of the day at Villa Park, their qualification for the Champions League could also mean they stand a better chance of keeping hold of their star players this summer.
