Better than Casilla- Exclusive: Whelan reacts as Leeds plot signing 'Fantastic' keeper to be No1

Noel Whelan urged Leeds United to sign Aaron Ramsdale this summer as the goalkeeper is "more trustworthy" than Kiko Casilla.

The former Elland Road striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, suggested the age and quality of the Bournemouth shot-stopper would "definitely improve" the United side.

Ramsdale has established himself as Eddie Howe's number one in his debut Premier League campaign, keeping four clean sheets in 28 appearances.

When asked whether he would welcome the signing of the England under-21 international this summer, Whelan told Football Insider: "I think he would be a good signing. A British player and a goalkeeper who is of a good age. He is a really good prospect. A player that would definitely improve Leeds, there is no doubt. I remember one of the FA Cup games he made some fantastic saves.

"There could be an exodus of players if Bournemouth go down. His contract may have a clause and the club may have to cut down the wage bill.

"I would choose Ramsdale over Kiko Casilla. He is calmer, more level-headed and I would say more trustworthy. I think if he came to the club he would be number one."

The goalkeeper, who spent last season on loan at AFC Wimbledon, has been monitored by United for two years.

With Illan Meslier still relatively inexperienced, and doubts over the future of Kiko Casilla, Marcelo Bielsa is expected to be in the market for a new number one.
