Alan Hutton has thrown his backing behind the Ibrox recruitment team as Rangers close in on a deal to sign Juan Alegria from FC Honka in January.

The former Gers and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes the Light Blues have identified another future star after the success of Alfredo Morelos.

The young striker's potential move has been complicated by the impending change to recruitment rules in Britain but the Light Blues are hopeful they will be able to get the deal over the line.

Having seen the Rangers transfer team strike gold with the likes of Morelos and Borna Barisic in the past, Hutton has suggested Alegria could be another foreign gem.

Hutton told Football Insider: "I've heard little bits, not too much, I think they've stopped because of the Coronavirus. I don't think he's played so much, it's more of an impact off the bench but he's obviously a talented player.

"I think we all know that the scouting system has worked well at Rangers so they obviously see a promising, big talent and he's only 18 so it's going to be one to bring in and develop within the squad.

"He sounds a decent prospect and I trust the Rangers scouting team because they've done so well in the past. It's not been bad so far so we'll have to back them."

Alegria, a Colombia under-17 international, has played six times as a substitute for Honka's first team so far, although only one appearance has been for longer than five minutes.

Steven Gerrard currently has Morelos, Jermain Defoe, Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten as his senior strikers.
