Chris Sutton has been left unimpressed by a journalists claim that Patrick Roberts has shown a "lack of ambition" by returning to Celtic last month.

Roberts, 20, enjoyed a brilliant 18-month long loan spell at Parkhead, which ended last term when he helped the Hoops win the Scottish treble without a single domestic defeat.

He has since been a part of Brendan Rodgers' summer recruitment by agreeing to join for another year on a temporary basis from Manchester City

That has led Daily Record journalist Gordon Parks to criticise the England youth international's choice of destination after he was reportedly wanted by La Liga side Girona and Ligue 1 side Nice prior to his Celtic return.

Former Hoops striker Sutton has since hit out at Parks' article on his personal Twitter account by labelling it as "utter nonsense".

Celtic supporters were eagerly anticipating Roberts' return all summer after he scored 11 goals and supplied 19 assists in 47 appearances across all competitions last season.

He is now likely to make his second debut for the Bhoys when they play Hamilton in the Scottish Premiership on Friday night before one of the biggest clubs in Europe travels to Parkhead the following Tuesday as Paris St. Germain begin their Champions League campaign.

The Hoops had a mixed transfer window where they managed to strengthen their attack but largely fail to add extra bodies in the centre of defence, where Rodgers is currently facing an injury crisis.
