Christiansen confirms Leeds offer for 25-year-old

Thomas Christiansen has confirmed that Chris Wood has been offered a new contract at Leeds.

Sky Sports News reported on their official Twitter account on Friday afternoon that the Whites had offered Wood, 25, the chance to extend his current deal, which is set to expire in 2019, by three years in the wake of a series of bids from Burnley.

Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay claimed on his personal Twitter account earlier this week that the Clarets had two bids knocked back by the Championship side as they look to keep hold of their prized possession.

Christiansen has now made it clear that it is no longer in his hands and it is up to Wood to make his decision on the offer as well as the board.

"The club made a good offer to him. If it's enough to keep him it's for the board & Victor (Orta) to clarify," said the Elland Road boss in his pre-match press conference on Friday, as quoted by BBC journalist Adam Pope on his personal Twitter account.

Wood was in hot form for Leeds last season as they just missed out on a spot in the Championship play-offs.

He scored 27 league goals and added a further three across all competitions as he won the golden boot award for the second tier.

The New Zealand international, formerly of Leicester and West Brom, got his campaign off to a good start when he scored against Bolton in the first match of the season.

However in the two league matches since, he, nor any of his team-mates, have been able to find the net in goalless draws with Preston and Fulham.

In other Leeds news, a defender has confirmed that he has agreed to sign for the Whites.
