Sheffield United are preparing to offer defender George Baldock a new deal to fend off interest from Celtic, Football Insider understands.

Celtic boss Neil Lennon has been impressed by Baldock and believes the fact the full-back has just a year to run on his contract means Sheffield United could be tempted to cash in on him.

A Hoops source has told Football Insider that the 26-year-old is waiting to see if the Premier League new boys will offer him a new deal to extend his stay at Bramall Lane.

United are keen to tie down Baldock to a new long-term deal, but all contract talks have been put on hold due to the ongoing legal battle over the ownership of the club.

Baldock is understood to be happy at Sheffield United and keen to try his luck in the Premier League next season.

Celtic await for further clarification about the defender's plans but there are internal fears they  might be forced elsewhere to find a new right-back.
