Confirmed: Newcastle attacker agrees terms over extending deal away from Magpies

Newcastle United have confirmed that winger Alex Gillead will spend the remainder of the season on loan at Bradford City after extending his temporary deal. The Magpies revealed their latest piece of transfer business via both their

and their

, with the 21-year-old having spent the first half of the season with the Bantams.

The latest agreement between the clubs means he will have spent a year and a half away from the Magpies with the League One club, having originally joined in a short term move in January 2016. He has made a total of 38 appearances for his loan side, 28 of which have come during the current campaign, netting his one and only goal for the club in the FA Cup win over Chesterfield.

Football Insider verdict

Gilliead is really making a name for himself with Bradford and with no senior appearances under his belt for Newcastle to date, he could well be looking for a new club come the summer window. The Magpies have had a torrid time in trying to develop their youth talents and have not seen a breakthrough to the senior side for some time, despite the amount of loan deals arranged to secure first team football for the youngsters. Perhaps Gillead has allowed himself to become too comfortable with Bradford, instead of testing himself at a higher level, and if that is the case, it could affect his chances of success in the long run.
