Dominic Ball has joined Rotherham from Tottenham after signing a three-year contract, it was announced on Friday.

Versatile Ball, who can play in defence or midfield, has transferred to Rotherham despite interest from Leeds and Rangers.

and Twitter account on Friday that the 21-year-old has joined the Championship club for an undisclosed fee.

Rotherham manager Alan Stubbs was delighted to sign the England Under-20 international, who impressed in a midfield enforcer role while on loan at Rangers last season.

“We’re getting him at a great age,” Stubbs told the Rotherham website. “He’s 21 and he’s a young, talented defender who will give real competition for places here which is what we want.
“He’s a young, talented defender who is very comfortable on the ball and he’s got good pace and reads the game well and it’s a great signing for us.
“Looking at him last season, with him going to Rangers and doing very well, we’re just delighted that we’ve managed to capture him."

Ball has followed the trail blazed by Spurs mainstay Dier by moving forward from his more recognised central defensive role into a midfield anchorman position.

It is a switch that paid dividends for Rangers last season as the centre-back-turned-defensive midfielder played a significant part in their Scottish Championship title triumph and progress to the Scottish Cup final.

Ball, who decided to change allegiances in 2014 after appearing at all Northern Ireland youth levels, was the subject of interest from a number of clubs.

Rangers were keen on bringing Ball back to Ibrox for a second loan spell, but Gers manager Mark Warburton admitted last week that a second spell would be difficult.

"The fact is Dom's a very talented boy we know well," he told the Daily Record. "He settled in really well into the club, he loved the city, performed well for Rangers last year.

"So if that was an option for us then we would move. But it is not as clear as the media might suggest."
