Willian has opened the door to completing a free transfer to Tottenham this summer after reiterating his desire to quit Chelsea.

The attacking midfielder has told Brazilian media that talks with the west Londoners have finished and it is "impossible" for him to remain.

A Spurs source has told Football Insider the club have made early moves to take advantage of Willian's contract stalemate as they look to strengthen their squad this summer.

As reported by Football Insider, the Londoners are planning to offer a lucrative contract to the 31-year-old before the next window as they look to make him their first recruit of the summer.

Chairman Daniel Levy insisted last week that it was inappropriate to be discussing transfers at a time of a global pandemic.

London's richest club have put their scouting work on hold in April and May due to the financial crisis caused by Covid-19.

Nevertheless, Willian is one of Spurs' top targets and a deal that the club regard as highly feasible early in the window.

Manager Jose Mourinho has earmarked the winger as a priority as he looks to be reunited with the player he signed when he was manager of Chelsea.

The possibility of the season extending beyond 30 June has increased amid a Premier League-wide desire to complete the current campaign.

This has ramifications for the 60-plus Premier League players whose contracts are due to expire at that point, including Willian.

The Brazil international has admitted talks with Chelsea over an extension have stalled as they have offered a two-year deal rather than the three-year contract he is seeking.

"I think it will be very difficult for me to renew because Chelsea offered me two years, I asked for three and it ended there, we didn’t talk anymore, we didn’t negotiate anymore,| Willian told Expediente Futebol.

"Three years - Chelsea said it would be impossible, so for now there's this difficulty."
