Dutch wonderkid Tahith Chong is set to join Manchester United in the summer after a breakthrough in talks, Football Insider sources understand.

The 16-year-old Feyenoord star has given the green light to the transfer after being persuaded by United's plan for developing youth.

Football Insider

revealed in January that the

.

Feyenoord put forward a strong case for Chong to stay and as recently as February Chong was quoted as saying that his first choice would be to remain with the Dutch club and progress from their famed Academy set-up.

However the progress of youngsters such as Marcus Rashford, Guillermo Varela and Timothy Fosu-Mensah at Old Trafford has offered encouragement to the Feyenoord youngster.

A United source has told

Football Insider

that negotiations with Feyenoord are advanced and the two clubs are finalising the terms of the deal.

It is a blow to United, whose talent-spotters were impressed with Chong when he played for Feyenoord at the Premier Cup tournament which was held at United’s Carrington training complex last August.

Chong can play on either flank but is predominantly used by the highly-rated Feyenoord youth team on the left wing.

In other Manchester United transfer news, the club are deciding whether to bid for 16-year-old Livingston striker Matthew Knox, who had a January trial at Carrington.
