Euro media: Bid tabled for reported goal-a-game Newcastle target tearing up top flight

French side Rennes have tabled a £6million (€7million) bid for Red Star Belgrade striker Richmond Boakye just days after he was linked with a move to both Newcastle United and Everton, according to a report.

Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad claim on their website that the Ligue 1 side have made an official approach to the Russian club for the 24-year-old's services, which is said to rule Anderlecht out of the race for his signing.

They state that there is still interest from China, although he is reportedly not keen on moving to the far east, as well as from England, following impressive form which has seen him tear up the Russian top flight.

Football Insider verdict

News of a £6million bid for Boakye's services really should not worry the likes of Everton or Newcastle that much, as the English duo will know they can blow the likes of Rennes out the water when it comes to transfer spending. Newcastle are not known for splashing the cash but they are desperate for some goals, so it could be that they break the bank for a striker in red hot form, while Everton flexed their financial muscles over summer. However, with Sandro Ramirez bought in but having little impact, the board could be reluctant on spending yet more cash on an attacker, so it promises to be an interesting transfer saga.
