Everton's scouts have jetted out to keep close tabs on Red Star Belgrade goal machine Richmond Boakye, according to a report.

The Daily Mail claimed in their live transfer blog on Monday [01:34PM] that the Toffees, as well as Chelsea and Rennes, have been on a mission to learn as much about Boakye, 24, as possible.

It is understood that Everton's Premier League rivals West Brom have a bid lined up for the Ghana international in the January transfer window as they look to find a cure to their lack of goals.

Boakye's record this season would certainly suggest that he would do that with 22 strikes in 27 appearances across all competitions, including 14 in 13 Serbian SuperLiga games.

Football Insider Verdict

Everton need to do the best they can to replace Romelu Lukaku in the January window because the signings they made in the summer simply haven't delivered. Boakye has a good record in Serbia and in the Europa League qualification rounds, but his performance in the group stages shows that he hasn't got what it takes to score regularly against top opposition. That may be good enough for teams like Newcastle and West Brom, but not Everton who could have really pushed for a top six spot last season. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was dangled in front of the faces of the Goodison Park faithful by Sam Allardyce - it would be a kick in the teeth if they end up with Boakye instead.
