Millwall are on the verge of signing Wycombe Wanderers defender Jason McCarthy as he prepares to undergo a medical today, Football Insider understands.

A number of clubs have been tracking the centre-back, 23, this summer, but the Championship club have agreed the terms of a deal after their bid was accepted.

A Millwall source has told Football Insider that McCarthy has been granted permission to head to the club for medical tests and discuss personal terms.

This comes after Football Insider revealed last week that Neil Harris' side had submitted an official offer for McCarthy.

Millwall boss Harris is keen to strengthen his defensive options before the transfer window closes next week and identified McCarthy as his top target.

The defender, who started his career at Southampton, won the Supporters Player of the Year award at League One club Wycombe last season.

The ex-Walsall and Barnsley defender made 48 starts among his 49 appearances, with 44 of them coming in Championship fixtures, as he demonstrated his consistency and durability.

It will be regarded as a major coup for Millwall if they can finalise the deal in the coming days.
